Champion apprentice Joe Leavy in hospital with broken jaw and collarbone after early-morning car accident

Champion apprentice Joe Leavy is in hospital after a car accident in which his passengers included fellow jockey William Carver.
Leavy, 20, broke his collarbone and jaw in the accident on Sunday morning and remains in hospital. Carver, 26, and a female passenger, were released from hospital.
Leavy and Carver were due to ride at Kempton on Monday, but their agents confirmed both jockeys had been stood down after the single-vehicle accident near Hungerford, Berkshire.
Leavy's agent Phil Shea said: "Joe's okay. He's conscious and he's talking, which is really good news. He's broken his jaw and his collarbone and, while I've not spoken with him, I have spoken to his parents who are with him in hospital.
"They were all lucky and it's a case of getting him back fit and well and ready to ride again when the time comes."
Based with Richard Hannon, Leavy won the apprentice jockeys' title this year with 41 wins and had been on course to surpass his personal best tally of winners of 63, having ridden 61, the most recent of which came at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
Carver was also on track for his best year with 21 wins, banking a personal best prize-money haul of £176,397.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police, said on Monday: “Officers were called at around 1.26am yesterday to Newbury Road in Eastbury, Hungerford following a single-vehicle collision.
"The three occupants, two men and a woman, were all taken to hospital. One man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. The other man and the woman have been discharged.
"No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 43250609451."
