'All the data said her stride was quite a long way clear of the others' - Al Shaqab camp dreaming of Classic glory with Aylin

It was quite a weekend for Aylin, who won the May Hill Stakes on Thursday before her form received a major boost on Sunday, leaving connections to dream of next year's Classics.

The Group 2 event at Doncaster has an illustrious roll of honour and Aylin added her name to the trophy in determined style under David Egan to get the better of Pacific Mission by three-quarters of a length.

Three days later at the Curragh, Precise, who finished ahead of Aylin in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood last month, overcame half a dozen rivals including her better-fancied stablemate Composing to land the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes.

"It's a great bit of form with Precise winning and the fourth [Sukanya] running so well in a Listed race at Leopardstown too," said Alison Begley, racing manager to Al Shaqab, who own her in partnership with Amo Racing.

"She enjoyed that bit of ease in the ground at Doncaster and the further she goes the better. She looked in trouble at halfway but she just stays very well. She's very straightforward and honest, and we were delighted with her.

"It's very exciting for Sheikh Joaan and the whole team. We went to the sales last year trying to buy these Classic-type pedigrees and we've got a lot of two-year-olds who are just coming out now."

Aylin, trained by Karl Burke, is a 25-1 shot for next year's Betfred 1,000 Guineas and Oaks, and Begley has been encouraged by the figures she has seen relating to her latest winning performance.

She said: "The May Hill is always a prestigious race and, interestingly, all the data said her stride was quite a long way clear of the others, which was interesting. Everything suggests she could get further than a mile. 

"Karl's always liked her and, like all of our yearlings, she was broken in by Malcolm Bastard. He's a very good judge and he loved her from day one – she was always the one he mentioned when I went there.

"She's a very good-moving filly, but she enjoys give in the ground like her dam [Angelic Light] and sire [St Mark's Basilica]. Karl was worried about running her on soft ground when she won her maiden as she's got a lovely action, but she loved it."

The bet365 Fillies' Mile over the 1,000 Guineas course and distance on October 10 or Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp five days earlier were mentioned as potential targets, but a decision regarding which race has yet to be made.

"We haven't discussed it," said Begley. "We'll have to see what the ground is doing and what's in each race, but Karl said she'd come out of the race well and he's delighted with her. He said he's just trying to keep her ticking over until those Group 1 races, but plans are up in the air regarding which way she'll go."

It could be an exciting autumn for the Al Shaqab team, with Simmering likely to run in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on October 4 and Andab being freshened up for a shot at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar on October 31.

Begley added: "Simmering is ground dependent as she needs it fast, and she could go to Keeneland. Andab is going to go to the Breeders' Cup. He had a busy start to the season with Joseph O'Brien and he's had a bit of a break. The aim is to freshen him up for the Breeders' Cup."
