Green light: Brighton passes morning inspection following heavy rain
Brighton's eight-race card will go ahead on Tuesday following an early inspection but officials will continue to monitor wind speeds.
More than 100mm of rain in the past week means the going is now soft, although no areas of the course were cause for major concern.
Clerk of the course Philip Hide was on hand to clarify the situation on Monday evening, and said: "We've had a lot of rain and we're due a fair bit tonight. In the current climate there's no harm in being transparent and giving everyone the head up where we're at really.
"It's taken the rain surprisingly well. Gary Moore rang me just to check if I hadn't gone mad because obviously he knows the place better anyone and I doubt in his living memory it's ever flooded!
"It's early racing and people deserve to know what's going on. The other background issue is the fact there are forecasts for strong winds and potential for gusting for 40mph so that's in the mix too."
