Breathtaking Baaeed surges further clear in race to be Horse of the Year

Baaeed has surged further clear at the top of the Cartier Horse Of The Year standings after maintaining his perfect record with a stunning win in the Juddmonte International at York last week.

The Shadwell-owned four-year-old is now well ahead of his rivals on 176 points, 80 clear of second-placed Inspiral (96) following her win in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

Baaeed took his unbeaten run to ten with his romp on the Knavesmire and could bid to keep his 100 per cent record intact in one or more of the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes, Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe or Qipco Champion Stakes next.

He also heads the Older Horse category, with Alpinista (64) having moved up joint-third in that division following her victory in the Yorkshire Oaks, her fifth Group 1 win in succession.

Inspiral's Deauville win also saw her become leader of the Three-Year-Old Filly category ahead of Tuesday (92), while Nunthorpe heroine Highfield Princess (80) is now clear at the top of the Sprinter category, having also won the Prix Maurice de Gheest in August.

Quickthorn (44) moved into joint-second with Stradivarius in the Stayer category behind leader Kyprios (80) following his runaway Lonsdale Cup success at the Ebor festival.

Aidan O'Brien strengthened his grip on the Two-Year-Old categories with Blackbeard (64) at the top of the Two-Year-Old Colt standings following his win in Sunday's Prix Morny over Persian Force (56), with Little Big Bear (40) in third.

The O'Brien-trained Meditate (32) is at the top of the Two-Year-Old Filly category, having made a winning step up to 7f and Group 2 level in the Debutante Stakes at the Curragh last Saturday.
