Bookmakers are steeling themselves for more bad publicity on Monday evening as the BBC's flagship current affairs programme Panorama is set to put the issue of gaming machines and betting shops under the spotlight again.

The programme, titled 'Why Are Gambling Machines Addictive', will feature Wendy Bendel whose partner Lee Murphy took his own life after losing thousands of pounds on the machines, also known as FOBTs.

Bookmaker representatives said they feared the programme would be "sensationalist and biased".
