William Buick enjoyed a first sit on his intended Investec Derby mount at the ungodly hour of 5.25am in order to get special permission to work the reverse way around the round gallop on the Limekilns. This tactic has largely gone out of favour in recent years with the introduction of the Breakfast With The Stars morning at Epsom, but with that event cancelled this year, Bin Suroor turned back the clock. Covering nine furlongs, the 2,000 Guineas fourth handled the cambers well enough to leave his lead horse a furlong behind.
