Bill Gredley throws the towel in after 30-year fight over Queensbury Lodge

Classic-winning owner-breeder Bill Gredley is set to hand over the controversial Queensbury Lodge Stables in Newmarket to the government after admitting defeat in a 30-year fight with local authorities to develop the site.

Only last month Gredley and his son Tim thought they had achieved a major breakthrough after their latest blueprint, including substantial housing and refurbishment of the Grade II Listed stableyard, was supported by Newmarket Town Council.

However, Gredley and his property business Unex Group have since received a communication from a higher authority, West Suffolk Council, pouring cold water on the plans, a reaction that has proved a tipping point for the developer.
