Wow! Mums Tipple storms to sensational 11-length success in sales race
The well-backed Mums Tipple produced a phenomenal display under Ryan Moore in the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes at York on Thursday, pulling well clear of his 21 rivals in the manner of a Group 1 juvenile.
The Richard Hannon-trained son of Footstepsinthesand was backed into 7-2 from as big as 6-1 and, in spite of a 5lb penalty, duly put 11 lengths between himself and runner-up Rayong, with Klopp Of The Kop back in third.
Hannon said: "We thought Mums Tipple was a very nice horse when he won at Ascot but I haven’t seen a horse of ours win like that for years.
"I’m not sure what strength of depth there was in the race but he looked pretty smart. He’s one of the nicest horses we’ve had in terms of the way he looks, behaves and moves. He’s a little bit different.I
"He does his thing at home and to me he looks like he’ll still improve. There are plenty of options for him but he’s entered in all the big ones."
The winner's upcoming Group 1 entries include the 6f Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (September 28) and the 7f Darley Dewhurst Stakes (October 12), both at Newmarket, while possible Group 2 challenges could include Doncaster's Champagne Stakes (September 14) or the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (September 21) at Newbury.

The victory represented an early Christmas present for owners Marian Lyons and Patricia Zanelli – who were gifted the winner last December – and both were understandably thrilled following the resounding success.
"We're delighted," the pair told ITV Racing. "Brilliant horse. Fantastic run. There was no danger. I could not have imagined that."
Speaking to ITV Racing, Moore added: "He's a big strong boy. He'll get better and is a man already."
It was not all smiles for the winning rider, however, as he was handed a two-day suspension by the stewards after the race for "his use of the whip when clearly winning inside the final furlong."
Mums Tipple was given an opening quote of 12-1 for the Commonwealth Cup by Paddy Power, while Betfair went the same price for next year's 2,000 Guineas.
