Mister Fisher advertises Supreme claims with Rossington Main success at Haydock
Mister Fisher continued his ascent through the novice hurdle ranks with a gritty victory in the Grade 2 Sky Bet Supreme Trial Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle at Haydock for trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey James Bowen.
The five-year-old, who accounted for highly regarded novices Thomas Darby and Didtheyleaveyououtto on his most recent start at Kempton, battled well to fend off the challenge of the Ben Pauling-trained Bright Forecast in second, who also shaped with promise after notably veering right as they headed out onto the second circuit.
A delighted Bowen said: "I was very impressed. The amount he's learned since the first day I rode him is phenomenal. He's got an incredible engine. He was dossing a bit when he got to the front but he has a lot of talent.
"He's progressed with every run and hopefully he's going to get better again. He's still got a bit to learn but he's very good – he's fast. I'm sure this season he'll probably stick to this trip but I'd be confident he'll get further."
Mister Fisher's stablemate Angels Breath still heads the ante-post Supreme market at a general 5-1, but Paddy Power were impressed enough with the display to clip Mister Fisher to 10-1 (from 12).
