Noel Meade takes Troytown with Tout Est Permis as Elliott's 11 fail to fire
There is just no place like home, especially when you get one over on your neighbour.
Noel Meade's Tu Va stables are located less than six miles away from Navan racecourse so winning the most lucrative race of the year at the track was extra sweet, 21 years after his only previous success in the race with Heist.
Fellow County Meath trainer Gordon Elliott had 11 runners as he attempted to win the Troytown for the fifth year in a row but Out Sam did best of his battalion in fifth as Tout Est Permis made it two from two since joining Meade from Mouse Morris at the start of the season.
Meade was understandably full of beans afterwards and admitted he would have been disappointed had Tout Est Permis not followed in the footsteps of Heist in 1997.
"Eddie [O'Leary] asked me the other morning, 'Are you not going to run the other two in it?' I said no — you can only win it once! I was very sweet on him, he worked like a bomb the other day. I felt if we just keep him together from then until Sunday he would win," he said.
Watch: Tout Est Permis win the Troytown Chase at Navan
Tout Est Permis did not just win the Troytown, he trounced his 24 rivals and could have been called the winner a long way from home. Mr Diablo dug as deep as he could but had no answer when Sean Flanagan swept by.
Meade added: "Everything went according to plan apart from nearly getting wiped out over the far side. He travelled and jumped brilliant. It’s the biggest race here and a huge race to win."
Meade reserved special praise for his winning rider.
"Sean is a big help to me both at home and on the track. He says things as they are and is very constructive in his comments. He’s riding very well," he added.
Flanagan added: "I would say he could be a graded horse in the making. He's very, very good."
Tout Est Permis earned a quote of 12-1 for the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas with the sponsors.
