She is adored by John Gosden, the apple of Frankie Dettori’s eye and worshipped by her thousands of followers. But nobody knows Enable quite as personally as Imran Shahwani.

The 34-year-old, Enable's groom, has looked after her, cared for her and prepared her for all her big days. He even has the honourable duty of riding her out at home each morning in Newmarket.

Witnessing her achieve a phenomenal tenth Group 1 victory in the Yorkshire Oaks, the man who knows her best was overcome with emotion.

"Enable is so very special to me," Shahwani said. "I’m lost for words, and it’s incredible to see how special she is to everyone. Of course I will be sad when she retires but she has nothing left to prove. She’s done it all, she’s a superstar."

A keen racing fan growing up in Pakistan, Shahwani moved to England 14 years ago in pursuit of his dream and was given a chance by Gosden.

But never in his wildest dreams could he have believed he would one day have the greatest mare in the world under his care. It is a reality about which Shahwani still has to pinch himself every day.

"It's incredible and I can't believe it," he added. "This is my first job in England, and I owe all this to Mr Gosden. He is a gentleman, and always looks after me as he does everyone."
