Three horses with a chance in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper

The Champion Bumper usually goes for export and Irish-trained horses have landed the spoils on the last six occasions, four of which were won by Willie Mullins, who is leading trainer in the race with 12 victories.

This year’s bumper crop is hard to assess but the Flat pedigree of A Dream To Share could mean he is just quicker than the rest here.

He won the Grade 2 Leopardstown bumper that has produced the first or second in this race for the last four years and, in doing so, put up easily the best bumper Racing Post Rating of the season, just 1lb shy of Facile Vega’s Champion Bumper winning figure.

He showed great acceleration to stamp his class on a strong field at Dublin Racing Festival and could be too good for the Mullins battalion.

The pick of Mullins’ runners could be It’s For Me, who was the most visually impressive bumper winner of the season, he pulled away by 10 lengths on his debut at Navan without even needing to come off the bridle.

He won a point-to-point by eight lengths on good ground when trained by Stuart Crawford, so the likely underfoot conditions shouldn’t cause him any problems.

The best of the British is Queens Gamble, who would be a lot shorter in the betting had she not lost her unbeaten record at Market Rasen last time.

She was 2-2 previously with both wins achieved at Cheltenham, firstly beating Mullenbeg, who finished second in the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle recently, by ten lengths then winning a Listed race by eight - she clearly enjoys the track and could prove value.
