St Leger Festival day three preview

Day three of the St Leger festival at Doncaster is headlined by the 250th running of Britain's oldest Classic, with the £700,000 Betfred St Leger (3.35) taking centre stage.

Aidan O'Brien is chasing another success in the race, having won the last three, and has assembled a formidable team headed by Derby winner Christmas Day, alongside Pierre Bonnard, Action and Amelia Earhart.

Joseph O'Brien looks to spoil the Ballydoyle party with Royal Ascot winner Enceladus, whose rapid rise through the ranks has made him one of the leading contenders, while Highwayman adds further strength to the Irish challenge. Andrew Balding also has a strong hand with Hatteen and Galiyan in the line-up.

The supporting card is packed with quality including the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (1.45), a race that regularly throws up future Group 1 performers and this year looks no different with the hot favourite Desert Castle representing Godolphin.

The Group 2 Park Stakes (3.00) provides another high-class contest as the William Haggas-trained More Thunder seeks his first win of the season.

St Leger Festival free bets explained

What is the St Leger?

The St Leger is Britain's oldest Classic and the final leg of the British Triple Crown for three-year-olds. The Group 1 is run over 1m6½f at Doncaster and is the feature race of the St Leger Festival.

What is a St Leger Festival free bet?

A St Leger Festival free bet is a bookmaker promotion that allows you to place a wager without using your own funds. If your selection wins, you'll receive the winnings, although the free bet stake itself is usually not returned.

How do I claim St Leger Festival betting offers?

Sign up with an eligible bookmaker, complete the registration process, make the required qualifying deposit and place your qualifying bet. Once you've met the promotion's terms, your free bets will usually be credited to your account.

Do I need a new account?

Yes. Most St Leger Festival betting offers are available exclusively to new customers. Existing customers may receive separate personalised promotions, such as enhanced odds, price boosts or other rewards.

What is the usual qualifying bet?

Most bookmakers require a qualifying bet of £5 or £10 at minimum odds, although the exact requirements vary between operators.

Can I use free bets on the St Leger?

In most cases, yes. Free bets can usually be used on the St Leger and across the wider Doncaster card, although some bookmakers may exclude certain markets or bet types. Always check the full terms and conditions before placing your bet.

How long do St Leger Festival free bets last?

Expiry dates vary between bookmakers, but most free bets remain valid for between seven and 30 days after they are credited.

Are stakes returned when using free bets?

No. If you place a £10 free bet on a winning selection at 3-1, you'll receive £30 in winnings, but the original £10 free bet stake is not returned.
