Which horse should you bet on at Royal Ascot day one?

With Sky Bet offering a total of £50 in Royal Ascot free bets, there are plenty of options available for you to bet on. Here are some ideas from Racing Post's Charlie Huggins:

Karl Burke has trained two of the last three winners of the Queen Mary Stakes and he can continue that fine recent record in this Group 2 with Zelaina. The Wathnan Racing-owned daughter of Mehmas understandably catapulted to the top of the Queen Mary market after impressively winning the same Nottingham maiden her stablemate Leovanni took en route to victory at the royal meeting last year.

2025 Royal Ascot day two preview

The action on the second day begins with the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes, a five-furlong sprint test for two-year-old fillies. North Yorkshire-based trainer Karl Burke has won this race twice in the past three years, most recently with the Wathnan Racing-owned Leovanni.

Next up is the Queen’s Vase, a Group 2 contest with £265,000 of prize-money up for grabs. Aidan O’Brien has dominated proceedings in recent years, with Illinois’s triumph 12 months ago an eighth victory for the yard since 2007.

The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is open to fillies and mares aged four and above and is a contest which has gone the way of John and Thady Gosden in recent times. The training partnership were victorious with Running Lion last summer, while Indie Angel was ridden to success by Frankie Dettori for the same stable in 2021.

The feature on day two is the Group 1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes and top-class names such as Economics, Los Angeles and Kalpana currently dominate the ante-post market.

The Royal Hunt Cup follows the only top-level race of the day, with trainer Saeed bin Suroor having won the race with Real World in 2021 and Wild Tiger last year.

The mile contest, which is worth £175,000, takes place before the Kensington Palace Stakes and Windsor Castle Stakes concludes the action, with Doha and Ain’t Nobody scoring in the two races for Ralph Beckett and Kevin Ryan respectively last year.
