Arc weekend 2025 preview

The most valuable weekend in European racing is here, with 15 Group races on the agenda and 12 of them at Longchamp. Naturally, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe takes centre stage, with French, British, Irish and Japanese hopes all vying for the riches.

Saturday’s action features two Group 3s at Ascot and the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket to complete Britain’s Pattern contribution.

Godolphin’s Cinderella’s Dream heads the Sun Chariot market, but she faces a stern test against Karl Burke’s Fallen Angel, who bids for a Group 1 hat-trick.

Longchamp hosts two Group 1s and three Group 2s on Saturday before the main event on Sunday, surrounded by six more Group 1s.

Aidan O’Brien looks to extend his Arc record with Oaks heroine and market leader Minnie Hauk, alongside three-time Group 1 winner Los Angeles. The world-class trainer has won the race only twice, most recently with Found in 2016. He also saddles Bedtime Story, favourite for the Prix de Royallieu on Saturday.

Japan continues its pursuit of a first elusive Arc triumph, spearheaded by Byzantine Dream and supported by Alohi Alii and Takashi Saito-trained Croix Du Nord.

The British contingent is led by Andrew Balding-trained Kalpana, David O’Meara-trained Estrange and Marco Botti-trained Giavellotto, each arriving with live claims of getting in the shake-up for the prize money.

How to use your Ladbrokes free bets on the racing at Longchamp

With £30 in Ladbrokes free bets to play with, here is a Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe tip:

Marco Botti’s Giavellotto looks a solid each-way play, with the six-year-old bringing both experience and proven form into the Arc.

The oldest runner in the field, his maturity could count for plenty, but what makes him particularly appealing is his win over Kalpana in the September Stakes at Kempton. While Juddmonte’s filly has clearly been campaigned with the Arc as her main target, Botti’s runner got the better of her with the minimum of fuss under Oisin Murphy.

The trip holds no concerns and Giavellotto is no stranger to international travel, having already struck at Group 1 level in Hong Kong. With those credentials, he has every chance of hitting the frame.
