Day five Glorious Goodwood Festival preview

The final day of the magnificent festival begins with the Group 3 Coral Glorious Stakes over 1m4f - a race William Haggas has won three times in the last five years.

That is followed by Group 2 action in the Lillie Langtry Stakes for fillies and mares, run over 1m6f with £170,000 going to the winner. Last year’s winner, Term Of Endearment, returns to defend her title and has already gone close this season, just touched off by Scenic. The Haggas-trained mare won’t go down without a fight.

Saturday’s feature is the Coral Stewards’ Cup - one of the most prestigious, valuable and competitive handicaps of the season, with a prize fund of £250,000.

Only one of the last eight winners has returned under 10-1, with last year’s landing a 40-1 shock and four others in that stretch winning at odds over 20-1.

The 6f sprint can attract a full field of 28 and is a high-octane highlight of the summer.

George Baker-trained Get It, who won the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, is among the leading players in a field full of familiar rivals. As always, it's a punter’s puzzle with the potential for a big-priced payday.
