Doncaster St Leger day 3 preview
Day three kicks off with the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, a highly competitive contest for some of the best two-year-olds in training. Notable past winners include Too Darn Hot, while this year’s leading contenders are Saba Desert, Gewan and Italy. The latter, trained by Aidan O’Brien, has finished runner-up to both rivals on his last two starts.
A handicap follows before attention switches back to Group 2 action with the 7f Park Stakes, in which the market is headed by 2,000 Guineas third Shadow Of Light. He is closely pursued in the betting by the William Haggas-trained More Thunder, who landed the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury last time.
The feature race of the week is next, the Group 1 St Leger, with £700,000 in prize-money. The final Classic of the Flat season, it offers O’Brien the chance to end the year with three wins from five Classics, with dual Derby hero Lambourn and Goodwood Cup winner Scandinavia at the head of the market.
Two handicaps and a maiden round off one of the most anticipated race days of the year.

Tip: Lambourn to win the St Leger @5-2 with Ladbrokes
This Ballydoyle star has one both the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby this season and is now looking to become the first horse to win the Leger as well the Derby since Reference Point did in 1987.
His last run at York can be disregarded with trainer Aiden O'Brien hinting that was just a warm-up for this big race here. Lambourn is a horse with heaps of talent and can go on the softer ground.
