Prince of Wales' Stakes preview + tip
The Group 1 Prince of Wales' Stakes is one of the real highlights of the week run over 1m2f and has been won by top-class names such as Crystal Ocean, Lord North and, more recently, Auguste Rodin.
Aidan O’Brien, the winning trainer from 12 months ago, could be represented by Los Angeles, who started his season off by winning the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh on Monday. Stablemates Diego Velazquez and Continuous also hold entries for the Ballydoyle master.
The Juddmonte-owned Kalpana ended her season last year with success in the Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot. It was a hat-trick for the Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old, who also enjoyed Group 3 glory at Kempton. She was third to Port Fairy at the royal meeting 12 months ago and could return hoping to go two better than before.
Other star names such as Anmaat could also be poised to feature in the high-quality Group 1 contest, which was upgraded to Group 1 status and restricted to four-year-old’s in 2000.
Anmaat - @10-3 with BoyleSports
Won the Champion Stakes on his first course start last October and he should make it two from two in Group 1s at this track and trip. The Owen Burrows-trained seven-year-old was beaten only half a length by a race-fit Los Angeles on his reappearance at the Curragh last month and he should reverse that form with the benefit of a run. Anmaat was eight-and-a-half-lengths clear of Los Angeles in the Champion Stakes and should confirm that superiority.
