Boodles May Festival 2025 Day 2 preview

Day two of the Boodles May Festival centres on a fascinating renewal of the Ormonde Stakes (3.05), where Aidan O’Brien bids for a record-breaking seventh win in the Group 3 highlight. 

The Ballydoyle maestro is represented by Illinois, a classy four-year-old who was narrowly denied in last year’s St Leger and now returns to the Roodee to take on six rivals, including Willie Mullins’s versatile challenger Absurde – a dual-purpose threat who ended last season with a strong fifth in the Melbourne Cup. 

Earlier on the card, the Listed Dee Stakes (2.35) features another O’Brien-Moore contender in Mount Kilimanjaro, aiming to bounce back after a surprise defeat at Dundalk. He faces a lively field including Andrew Balding’s High Stock, an impressive debut winner at Newmarket, and Richard Hughes’s improving Hott Shott, who looks well worth a crack at this longer trip after solid juvenile and early-season form.
