Sky Bet Saturday Ascot Chase preview
The Betfair Ascot Chase, run over two miles and five furlongs, has an illustrious roll of honour, with the likes of One Man, Kauto Star and Shishkin all successful since its inception in 1995.
The most successful trainer in the history of the Ascot Chase is Paul Nicholls, who has won the race on five occasions: Rockforce (2000), Kauto Star (2008), Silviniaco Conti (2016), Cyrname (2019) and Pic D'Orhy (2024).
Last year's winner Pic D'Orhy was the beneficiary of a masterful front-running ride from Harry Cobden, who stole a march on the field and proved five and a half lengths too good for L'Homme Presse. Both horses look set to lock horns again.
It's far from a two-horse race though, with Emmet Mullins sending National Hunt Chase winner Corbetts Cross over from Ireland. He's been well supported in the ante-post market.
He's not the only potential runner from Ireland, as former Grade 1 winner Blue Lord is also in contention for Willie Mullins, although he's been well beaten on both starts and hope of a revival seem pinned on the longer distance.
Where to spend your £40 in Sky Bet Ascot Chase free bets
With Sky Bet offering a total of £40 in Ascot Chase free bets for this Saturday, there are plenty of options available for you to bet on. Here are some ideas:
- Blue Lord to win the Ascot Chase @11-1 with Sky Bet
Willie Mullins’ outsider has produced performances capable of winning a substandard Ascot Chase in the past. The problem is those formlines are almost two years old, and he has shown little in both starts since his 2023 John Durkan fourth to Fastorslow. If this ageing Grade 1 winner is capable of one last hurrah, though, it is likely to be in a soft championship race over two and a half miles.
Note, these odds are subject to change
