It warmed the cockles on a cold Valentine’s Day to see Jonbon roll back the years in the Ascot Chase. All roads now lead to the Ryanair Chase and his price is unchanged at a general 4-1. 

We must let head rule heart as punters, though, and I won’t be falling for the Jonbon trap again at Cheltenham. That’s never been his track and he was entitled to win a scrap with an ageing Pic D’Orhy in a Grade 1 that lacked depth. 

That was another hard race this season for the legendary ten-year-old, who has an iron constitution but can only go to the well so many times and is susceptible to an improver.
