Ben Coen: teenage sensation eyeing St Leger double on massive Group 1 weekend
Teenage sensation Ben Coen has revealed he is leaning towards riding Ottoman Emperor in the Cazoo St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday rather than partner Create Belief in the Coolmore Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on the same day.
Both horses are trained by the 19-year-old's boss Johnny Murtagh, who is set to supply Coen with a rare opportunity of landing a St Leger double this weekend as Ebor hero Sonnyboyliston was reported to be on course for the Irish equivalent at the Curragh on Sunday.
Ottoman Emperor may be a 5-1 chance to topple the odds-on Hurricane Lane at Doncaster, but Coen is quietly confident Murtagh's colt, who completed a four-timer when denying Sir Lucan in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, has more improvement to come.
