Britain’s relay squads preparing for the Rio Olympics will have sympathy with the team of jump jockeys left lamenting a bad baton change at the St James's Place Barbury International Horse Trials on Saturday.

Champion jockey Richard Johnson, Tom Scudamore, Wayne Hutchinson and Tom Bellamy were beaten by a team of event riders in the JCB Champions Challenge run in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

“We ballsed up the handover!” said Scudamore as he explained the crucial moment when he went to hand the baton to Hutchinson at the end of his circuit.
