Bank Holiday blues: inspections for Chepstow and Redcar as rain poses threat
Easter Monday's fixtures at Chepstow and Redcar are subject to inspections and racing at Huntingdon has already been called off as rain plays havoc with the Bank Holiday programme.
Chepstow, which hosts jumps action, is described as heavy, waterlogged in places and clerk of the course Keith Ottesen and his team will hold an inspection at 9am on Sunday.
It is a similar story at Redcar, which is due to stage its first fixture of the Flat season. Officials will inspect at 11am on Sunday in light of a forecast that predicts 20mm of rain between Saturday and Monday, while Pontefract's first meeting of the year on Tuesday is also in doubt with an inspection set for 9am on Monday.
A tweet from the Pontefract racecourse account on Saturday morning read: "Due to heavy rain overnight and a rotten forecast Sunday night into Monday we will be holding an inspection [on] Monday morning at 9am to see if racing can go ahead on Tuesday. The going is currently heavy. We will keep you updated as soon as we know more."
The highlight on Easter Monday is the BoyleSports Irish Grand National, which takes place at Fairyhouse.
The going at Fairyhouse is soft to heavy, heavy in places ahead of the track's three-day meeting, which starts on Sunday.
