Artscape rewards Ivory's patience with narrow victory
Dean Ivory again showed his touch and understanding of sprinters when the wait for cut in the ground with Artscape was rewarded with a win in the 6f handicap.
James Doyle played his part in the head defeat of favourite Curious Fox as he let the runner-up quicken past plenty early enough before making his winning run to give Ivory his 13th winner of the year.
Former jump jockey Graham Thorner picked up the five-year-old, who was then unraced, out of Jim Bolger's stable at the 2015 autumn sales for just 4,500gns.
Racking up the winners
Champion jockey Jim Crowley showed just why he will be hard to dethrone as he motored on from a win at Brighton to force Tuff Rock home by the minimum margin from front-runner Meccabah in the 1m2f maiden on a day when he had ten rides.
Crowley still trails current leader Silvestre De Sousa, whom he beat into second to land his first title last year.
At the other end of the weighing-room scale, apprentice Fletcher Yarham will not forget his ride on Road To Dubai in the apprentice handicap as it was his first winner under Rules.
Riding for George Scott, the claimer stayed cool as Alexander M was sent fully ten lengths ahead of Road To Dubai before running him down well inside the final furlong to give the Newmarket trainer his third winner from his last four runners and a round dozen for the year.
