John Gosden says William Buick is likely to ride Mishriff in Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe () after the top jockey became available following Godolphin's decision to remove Adayar from the Longchamp showpiece.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained five-year-old has been partnered by three different jockeys already this season, with Buick – who holds a comfortable lead in his bid to be crowned Britain's champion jockey for the first time – pencilled in to potentially ride the globetrotting star for the first time.

James Doyle, who picked up the ride on Mishriff for the King George and Juddmonte International after David Egan’s split from owner Prince Faisal, has not recovered from a fracture to his left hand in time to reignite that partnership.

Colin Keane was on board Mishriff when he was last seen finishing fourth behind the Arc market leader Luxumbourg in the Irish Champion Stakes.

Buick has ridden only twice domestically for the Newmarket father-son training combination this season but has ridden 307 winners for Gosden snr, mostly as his stable jockey between 2010 and 2014.

Explaining the decision to run Mishriff, who is a general 20-1 chance, Gosden told Sky Sports Racing: “The ground was sticky holding in Ireland but he was doing all of his best work at the end.

“He has won over a mile and a half, he’s won a Prix du Jockey Club, he’s won on soft ground. I’m perfectly aware of the quality of the race but it doesn’t have an outstanding star in it and to that extent I think a lot of people have been tempted.

“You get a very long stretch round the back there, he’s in good order and I think William Buick will be riding him.”
