Charlie Appleby is hopeful Wild Illusion, winner of the Prix Marcel Boussace at Chantilly on Arc day, can develop into a Classics contender next season.

It was Appleby's second consecutive success in the race, but a training setback meant last year's winner Wuheida did not make it back to the track until the summer when she was runner-up in the Falmouth.

Wild Illusion will not be sighted for the rest of the season, and Classics will be on her agenda at three, with Appleby saying: "She'll go into the Guineas and we'll take a look at that."

While she is a top-priced 20-1 for the 1,000 Guineas, she is only 16-1 for the Oaks, and Appleby added: "I think she'll get the trip next year and we could potentially work back from the Oaks."

Appleby has enjoyed a fine season with his juveniles, and is mulling over whether to try to claim the final British Group 1 of the season, Doncaster's Racing Post Trophy with Newmarket maiden winner Ghaiyyath.

The Dubawi colt created a favourable impression when making all to win by five lengths, and Appleby said: "He's come out of the race well and is in the Racing Post Trophy. We'll see how he is in the next week to ten days."
