A memorable Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe success for Sir Mark Prescott, Luke Morris and Kirsten Rausing with Alpinista was also of huge significance to the Tote Ten to Follow leader O Sue Sweet, one of 10.6 per cent of players to include the mare in their teams.

With many chasing outfits containing Alpinista’s chief market rival Luxembourg or closest race pursuer Vadeni, Morris’s vigorous, all-action finish to get Alpinista home will have been mirrored in the living rooms of the grey’s Ten to Follow fans and the 56 points collected are likely to make all the difference in the destination of the £28,279.80 first prize.

That haul includes 25 extra points as the Arc is the season’s third-last bonus race, with only the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Champion Stakes to come.

As a bonus race there were rewards on offer for followers of runner-up Vadeni, who added 14.7 points for 13.2 per cent of stables. As in the Arc itself, he is now on the heels of Alpinista and they are in fifth and sixth places on the season’s leaderboard.

Second in that table is Kyprios after his Prix du Cadran success that brought the Ballydoyle stayer to 138.13 points for the campaign for 32.2 per cent of stables.

Also of significance was the Prix de l’Abbaye win of The Platinum Queen. Only 2.3 per cent of players cheered her home but they included leaderboard second, Uns555, who bagged 28.90 points there. That team is 38.39 points adrift of the leader but with chances limited to turn positions around before the October 15 finale.
