All you need to start your day including going from all the tracks

There is racing on Newmarket's July course on Thursday
1 of 1

The weekend build-up normally starts on a Thursday but it is particularly explicit today, as Newcastle plays host to day one of a three-day fixture that culminates in Saturday's Northumberland Plate.

Much the same can be said for Newmarket's July course, where racing also takes place today, tomorrow and Saturday.

Thursday cards

By the weekend, Newcastle will very much be the feature meeting but it is a tighter call today, with Class 2 handicaps at both venues, the extra one in the north east balanced by some interesting maidens at headquarters.

Nottingham completes the afternoon diet, with Leicester, Tipperary and Hamilton taking over in the evening.

Wednesday's matches provided a couple of moments of cheer for VAR fans, which have been in short supply so far. Long-time opponent Bruce Millington weighs in.

Final thought

Do you know who will have a view on whether England win or lose tonight? Windsor and Stratford. They are hosting evening meetings on Monday and Tuesday respectively, the two nights on which England might play their second round match, depending on the result. Hamilton (Monday) and Chepstow (Tuesday) might not be quite so concerned.
