Naas: the Flat season kicks off in Ireland
1 of 1

The Flat season is back in Ireland, with some British racegoers looking on enviously as they wait a further six days for Doncaster and the Lincoln.

The Irish equivalent is always a ferociously competitive handicap and is the feature on the season-opening card at Naas (4.10). The Listed Devoy Stakes (4.45) is the other highlight, with one-time Derby hope Amedeo Modigliani set for his first run since 2017.

Downpatrick hosts a jumps card featuring the Ulster National (3.50), while Exeter and Carlisle also stage jumping action in Britain.

Final thought

Naas and the start of the Irish Flat season will rightly get plenty of attention, but the jumps action at Carlisle, Exeter and Downpatrick is reasonably good as Sunday standards go. Those meetings deserve their own share of attention.
