The essential details on a cracking Thyestes Chase day at Gowran Park

Champagne West won the Thyestes Chase last year
1 of 1

It is one of Gowran Park's big days of the year, with the Thyestes Chase and Galmoy Hurdle providing big clues for the spring meetings.

Gordon Elliott has never won the feature chase and sends out six as he aims for a first victory, including seeming perennial fancy Ucello Conti, with 7lb claimer Liam McKenna in the saddle once more.

In Britain, Warwick and Kelso provide the jumps interest, while Southwell and Chelmsford provide afternoon and evening all-weather action.

Final thought

Talk of Gordon Elliott having never won the Thyestes is said as though it is a blight on a life's work, when it is easy to forget that this time 12 years ago Elliott had yet to send out his first runners as a trainer. It's just another occasional reminder of his meteoric rise virtually from scratch.
