All the latest news on a busy afternoon and evening of racing

Ascot racecourse: back in action today ahead of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Always be careful what you wish for. After weeks of drought the forecast today includes some widespread thunderstorms which could make life difficult this weekend.

Nobody can accuse racing of not planning for a long weekend with five of today's eight meetings coming through the evening to give flexible-hours workers the chance to get the party started.

Jumping at Uttoxeter and the first of the two-day Ascot meeting begin proceedings during the lunch hour, followed by Thirsk before Down Royal, Newmarket, Chepstow and York along with Wexford in Ireland provide the evening entertainment.
