Gracious John: going for an all-weather hat-trick
1 of 1

We are through the busy Christmas and New Year period and out into a decidedly wet 2018 which has already curtailed today's schedule - but not as much as was feared.

Ffos Las fell victim to waterlogging but the only other jumps fixture - at Ayr - passed an 8.30am inspection.

There is also action on the all-weather with Newcastle staging a twilight all-weather Flat meeting. The highlight of the card is an all-weather championship fast-track qualifier in which Gracious John bids to complete a hat-trick of wins.

Going report

Ayr - first race 12.30
Heavy (GoingStick: Chase - 5.4; hurdle - 5.2 on Tuesday at 08:00 - meeting passed an 8.30am inspection)

Newcastle - 3.35

Ffos Las - abandoned

Market movers

1.35 Ayr - Graystown 7-1 (from 8)

2.10 Ayr - Presented 9-1 (from 11)

4.40 Newcastle - Dragon Mall 9-2 (from 5)

5.10 Newcastle - Atletico 7-1 (from 9)

What to watch

Though into a new year it's still not too late to look back on the stars of 2017, some of whom will be back to illuminate 2018.

There are four more Premier League matches this evening. The sports team have analysed each of them while Steve Davies provides the best advice on the televised match between Swansea and Tottenham.

Final thought

Adam Wedge learned a very hard lesson when taking the wrong course at Exeter. The shame he must endure for the error is a punishment in itself but 21 days suspension is a huge hit to the pocket.
