The latest going and betting news as Brigadier Gerard night takes centre stage

Sandown: the place to be this evening
1 of 1

It's the biggest evening meeting of the year at Sandown and the action is live on ITV4 for the first time tonight.

The valuable Brigadier Gerard Stakes fixture is likely to be run on ground on the slow side of good after 10mm of overnight rain and a further 1.5mm in the morning led to an easing of the going.

Sir Michael Stoute has won the feature Matchbook Brigadier Gerard more than any other trainer and he has every chance of landing the Group 3 contest for a ninth time with Dubai Sheema Classic runner-up Poet's Word.

Last year's surprise Gold Cup winner Big Orange warmed up for Royal Ascot by landing the Matchbook VIP Henry II Stakes, in which Chester Cup winner Magic Circle heads a field of eight 12 months on.

Chelmsford also races in the evening while the afternoon action is at Catterick, Lingfield and Goodwood.

Final thought

How close would Without Parole have gone in the 2,000 Guineas had he not been ruled out by a bruised foot? We should get some idea when the exciting colt runs in the Heron Stakes at Sandown.
