All change: prominent owner Barry Connell applies for training licence

A seismic change to the way Barry Connell runs his operation beckons in the coming months with the prominent owner set to take over training responsibility for his horses after severing links with Alan Fleming.

Connell will have to sit a trainer’s course before sending out runners in his own name and has enlisted the help of licensed trainer Keith Clarke, who will take over on an interim basis at their new purpose built Boherbaun Stables in Nurney, County Kildare.

Connell explained: “We have very good staff, some nice horses and I'd like to have a go at the training side of things.
