Aintree reveals plan for Boxing Day fixture in 2023 with Huntingdon switch
There will be a new course on the Boxing Day roster in 2023 after Aintree revealed plans to stage a meeting on December 26 for the first time from next year.
The track has staged fixtures during the Christmas period previously, with the two-day 'Yuletide meeting' taking place earlier in December between 1953 and 1964, but never before has the home of the Grand National raced on Boxing Day itself.
Aintree's fixture will replace the December 26 meeting currently staged at fellow Jockey Club-owned course Huntingdon. The Cambridgeshire track's Christmas meeting has been abandoned four times in the last decade and twice in the last four years, which is understood to be one of the main drivers behind the fixture switching to Merseyside.
