Coolmore Nunthorpe winner Alpha Delphini will not race again this year after a modest effort in the Prix de l'Abbaye which trainer Bryan Smart has put down to his not coping with his first overseas trip.

Alpha Delphini pipped Mabs Cross by a nose to spring a 40-1 Group 1 surprise at York in August but was never able to challenge behind the same rival at Longchamp earlier this month.
