Debate on gaming machines needed says regulator

The Gambling Commission has said all options, including stakes reduction, should be on the table when the government begins its review of gaming machines in the coming weeks.

The regulator was responding in the aftermath of Monday night's Panorama which examined the issue of the controversial machines, also known as FOBTs. The latest edition of the BBC's flagship current affairs programme titled 'Why Are Gambling Machines Addictive featured Wendy Bendel whose partner Lee Murphy took his own life after losing thousands of pounds gambling, including on machines.

The commission's executive director for corporate affairs and research Tim Miller said: "Last night’s programme vividly showed how gambling addiction can be devastating for those that gamble and for their loved ones.
