Racing Post app user wins the ultimate trip to the 2022 Cheltenham Festival

A Racing Post app user is planning the trip of a lifetime after claiming the grand prize in our Christmas countdown competition.

Shaun Askew, from Wickersley near Rotherham in Yorkshire, bagged a trip to the 2022 Cheltenham Festival involving a helicopter to and from the racecourse after winning the app exclusive competition.

App users were invited to place a bet on selected days – six Fridays plus December 26 – to be in with a chance of winning weekly prizes plus a trip to Cheltenham involving a private helicopter journey to the racecourse, hospitality in the Chez Roux restaurant on Gold Cup day and an overnight stay in a five-star hotel.

Askew said: "When I was notified about this, it was 24 hours after I was told I had come down with Covid so I'm isolating at home.

"I often bet through the app, in fact most of my bets come through the app. The competition looked so good with the prizes – it looked too good an opportunity to miss really.

"I've never been in a helicopter before and my wife will be coming along with me and she's terrified of flying, so that's going to be interesting. I think I'm going to take my son and his girlfriend as he's been very nice to me in the last 24 hours."

As for a banker at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, Askew added: "The absolute banker for me – and it will be no surprise to anyone – is Shishkin. I love the horse and I just cannot see him getting beaten.

"The other horse I'm becoming fonder of as time goes on is Galvin. I think he's got a cracking chance in the Gold Cup – he'll be staying on when others are crying enough."

Aaron Anderson in 'good spirits' after suffering broken ribs in Wetherby fall

Aaron Anderson remains in "good spirits" and is recovering well in hospital after suffering four broken ribs at Wetherby on Monday.

The jockey also sustained lung damage and minor injuries to his T4 and T6 vertebrae after being trampled by another runner when Oliver's Island came down in the 3m conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle.

Anderson was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary before being moved to Leeds St James's University Hospital on Tuesday evening.

"We've been in regular contact," said his agent Paul Brierley. "He's in good spirits but it knocked the stuffing out of him. He's spoken to all the trainers about covering his rides and he's more gutted about missing the ride aboard Schiaparannie at Doncaster on Wednesday.

"The injuries to his spine are not long-term. They will take time to heal but he's hoping to be out of hospital within the next few days."
