The Queen celebrated a winner on her Platinum Jubilee weekend after Steal A March galloped to victory in the feature 2m7f handicap hurdle.

The seven-year-old, trained by Nicky Henderson, bounced back brilliantly from a poor chase debut at Bangor last month to record a brave success under Nico de Boinville and give Her Majesty another reason to cheer on this historic weekend.

"It was a very special win and a big honour to ride for Her Majesty on this weekend," De Boinville said. "It was fantastic and great that the boss and Seven Barrows team could produce him in great form for today.

"There was a huge crowd and they really got behind the royal colours while having such a great day out, which was fantastic to see."

Henderson and the Queen have enjoyed some terrific success together, most famously with the classy chaser Barbers Shop, who provided De Boinville with two landmark career wins in the royal colours as a young 7lb claimer in 2012.

He added: "I had two wins on Barbers Shop and Her Majesty actually gave me my first two winners over jumps as an amateur. We go back a while and I'm really grateful for what she's done for my career."

The Queen was out of luck with her first runner of the day when Loudspeaker finished seventh in the 1m6½f handicap at Doncaster, and was narrowly denied a double when Chancery Lane was beaten at Chepstow in the evening.

While she was victorious at Worcester, Her Majesty was unable to take her usual place at Epsom on Derby day and did not have a runner in the big race itself after long-time hope Reach For The Moon was not felt to be ready for the Classic.

The Queen's first ever winner came over jumps when Monaveen was successful at Fontwell in 1949, and she has had some memorable moments as an owner with the Derby the only Classic she is yet to win having finished third in the 2011 running with Carlton House.

Her other famous victories include that of Estimate, who secured a memorable success in the 2013 Ascot Gold Cup under Ryan Moore.
