3,000 up! Willie Mullins reaches landmark with Timi Roli at Wexford

Willie Mullins: trained his first winner in February 1988
1 of 1

Willie Mullins recorded his 3,000th winner at Wexford on Wednesday with Timi Roli, according to Horse Racing Ireland, and there was something rather fitting about the success.

The victory came from a horse carrying the colours made famous by Hurricane Fly, the record-breaking dual Champion Hurdle winner with whom the 12-time champion handler managed to 22 Grade 1 victories.

Timi Roli could not have been more impressive, cruising home unchallenged to land the 3m handicap hurdle under the trainer’s nephew Danny Mullins.

The first of the 3,000 Closutton winners came at Thurles on February 18, 1988, with Silver Bachelor.

Mullins, who has 231 Grade 1 victories, was not at Wexford to welcome back his landmark winner.
