Imrahor
Third, Newbury, Tuesday

This was a hugely promising belated handicap debut from Imrahor, who had been off since November and gelded in the interim.

Handed a mark of 90 after contesting Group 3 and Listed events on his two most recent starts at the end of last season, Hugo Palmer's four-year-old travelled well for a long way in the lead.

The lack of race fitness ultimately took its toll as he faded into third, but he could prove well handicapped yet and looks capable of a good deal of progress this autumn. [Mark Brown]

Overthink
Winner, Catterick, Wednesday

Overthink is a lazy sort and a slow learner whose calling card so far has been getting well behind in his races, even since being stepped up to 1m6f, but he proved good enough to overcome that trait for a first win and should add to it.

Mark Johnston's three-year-old looked an unlikely winner at halfway, but he put in a strong last half-mile and just prevailed to belatedly get off the mark.

Kool Moe Dee
Seventh, Lingfield, Thursday

In what was a typically competitive Racing League sprint handicap, Kool Moe Dee got no run at all and shaped a good deal better than his finishing position.

Held up behind the leaders near the rail, Richard Hannon's three-year-old was in theory well positioned, but when those rivals, including the outsider of the field, began to weaken, he had nowhere to go and found himself falling back to last position with a furlong to run. He was staying on at the finish without being knocked about and would have finished a lot closer had things worked out better.

Kool Moe Dee won off 4lb higher last September and is coming into form ready to strike again. [Steffan Edwards]

March Law
Fourth, Beverley, Saturday

March Law had plenty against him in this race – he hadn't run since narrowly edging out a 92-rated rival in a match race at Ayr 13 months ago and was faced with the fastest ground he's raced on, his previous smart form having come on soft – and ran well in the circumstances.

The three-year-old dwelt at the start but was soon in a prominent position and showed plenty before getting tired, which was understandable given he had raced keenly and was always likely to benefit greatly from the run.

Trainer Mark Johnston has always held this colt in high regard, faith he justified when second in last year's Chesham, and as a half-brother to Frankuus, a Group 3 winner for the same yard who appreciated plenty of cut underfoot, it would be no surprise to see him prove better than a handicapper in time. Chindit
Fourth, Goodwood, Saturday

Chindit had raced exclusively in Group 1 company following his Greenham success at Newbury in April, often running well, so the drop in grade to take in the Celebration Mile looked to give him a sound chance of getting his head back in front following a fair effort in the Jacques le Marois.

However, his path to the front became blocked over a furlong out and he didn't have the time to make a telling challenge on the first two having got into the clear inside the final stages, finishing strongly but unable to get there.

Hopefully he won't be so unfortunate when next seen and, in that case, he can grab a valuable prize by the end of this campaign. [David Toft]
