Young Joseph has privileges, yes, but he is still massively overachieving

He’s only 27 years old and he’s already trained two Melbourne Cup winners, a Breeders’ Cup winner, Classics in Britain and Ireland, Cheltenham Festival winners and brought back Edwulf from oblivion to win the Irish Gold Cup.

Yet I still don’t think anyone really gives Joseph O’Brien anywhere near the credit he deserves because there can’t be anyone who has achieved so much at such a young age in racing history.

I suppose it’s because he’s Aidan’s son and there is the feeling that he’s been hugely privileged to be given the opportunities he has at such a young age. Of course that cannot be denied but if you delve a little deeper into it, Joseph has done some extraordinary things already in his fledgling career.
