Yanworth out to avenge 'typical novice's fall' at Newbury

I’m hoping that Yanworth shows everyone what he can do – and shuts up one or two people – in the Grade 2 novice chase at Newbury on Friday.

There was never any chance that he would switch back to hurdles after his fall at Exeter last time. What would be the point of that?

Yet I saw that suggestion being made and it does annoy me when so-called experts, who’ve never sat on a horse in their lives, say that sort of thing.

It’s not as though Yanworth jumped clumsily. He just landed a little steeply and it was a typical novice’s fall. He schooled last Thursday, jumping nine fences, and it was clear from what he did that morning that the fall hadn’t worried him.

There are other decent horses entered, but he goes there regardless of what else runs as we’ve got to kick on and get more match practice into him.

Dusky Legend may run in the novice handicap chase as long as the ground is not too soft.

She ran a blinder in a Listed race at Bangor, jumping really well but pitching at the last and having to settle for second. We’re keen to give her one more run before the winter ground sets in and she has another option back at Bangor on Saturday.

We’ve got two in the handicap hurdle, but the ground was too soft for Tara View at Wincanton on her last run and I’d be surprised if it were suitable this time.

Beneagles ran all right to finish third here on his first run of the season and he’ll have come on plenty for the run.

I have several in the novice hurdles. Deyrann De Carjac is also entered at Bangor and I’d expect him to run well wherever he goes.

He’s a lovely horse and his third in a bumper at Chepstow was good form. He’s been pleasing us since and is ready to start over hurdles.

It was a strange race that Second Time Around ran in at Sandown last time as he had to be dropped in to get him to settle and the favourite rather got away. He’ll have come on for that in terms of fitness and experience.

Talkischeap won twice in May and then had a holiday. He’s ready to come back but wouldn’t want the ground too soft and is also entered in two races at Doncaster.

Peggies Venture could also run at Doncaster in the novice handicap hurdle. She was put up 6lb for running well at Taunton, which was rather annoying, but she’s consistent and should get the decent ground she wants. Otherwise, there is an option for her at Market Rasen next week.
