Don't get me wrong. I love my Flat racing and I'm really excited to see the awesome Cracksman in action in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp on Sunday and watch the Guineas next week, but it struggles to produce the raw emotion of jumps racing – and at Punchestown this week we saw that in spades.

Watching Faugheen strut his stuff when upped to 3m was a joy to behold and he was undoubtedly the equine star of the week. It always amazes me how quickly many punters and racing fans write off the top horses if they don't quite live up to expectations. If a handicapper runs below form we are often prepared to dismiss the below-par effort and give them another chance, whereas if a good horse does it they are deemed to have gone and aren't any good anymore.
