Wetherby Placepot picks: Graeme Rodway with his selections for a £100,000 pool

The ability to handle testing ground will be key for the £100,000 guaranteed Placepot pool at Wetherby and Ritson and Mongol Emperor are the two soft-ground horses in the first (1.05).

There isn’t much form to go on in the 2m juvenile maiden hurdle (1.35), so it’s hard to find those who will definitely handle the ground. However, Wakey Wakey ran well on soft at Sedgefield and it’s also worth including Spartan Army, who had useful Flat form and represents Alan King.

The 3m handicap chase (2.10) is a good little race and French Paradoxe is one of my best bets of the afternoon. He must go into the perm, but Southern Sam looks like a solid alternative.

Battle Of Toro handles soft and heavy and is a banker against Magic Wave in the 2m novice hurdle (2.40), while Adrimel and Joke Dancer appeal in the 1m7f handicap chase (3.10).

The 2m bumper (3.40) is a difficult race to get a handle on given there is so little form to go on. Lunar Discovery won well first time at Hexham and can be included alongside For Gina.
