Wetherby Placepot picks: Dave Randall has two bankers across the jumps card

Some awkward field sizes suggest the Wetherby Placepot dividend could be bigger than usual, if negotiating a route through the six legs.

Sonning and Collingham are two four-year-olds with more to offer and they are selected in the six-runner 2m handicap hurdle for conditional riders (1.20).

None of the four runners can be taken on with complete confidence in the next (1.55), but seven-year-olds and nine-year-olds have fared well in this race in the past, so El Borracho, Joke Dancer and Texard are chosen against the ten-year-old Slanelough.

Two places are up for grabs in the seven-runner juvenile hurdle (2.30) and the Rebecca Menzies-trained The Churchill Lad must have every chance of defying his penalty after winning easily on his hurdling debut at Cartmel in August.

Whoshotthesheriff is selected to win the feature Bobby Renton Handicap Chase (3.05) on his seasonal reappearance for the second consecutive year. Pencreek and Frimeur De Lancray are two insurance picks with decent claims.

Hillview is likely to resume his progress after a small break in the Tom Richmond Memorial Handicap Hurdle (3.40) with course-and-distance winner Caius Marcius also fancied back up in trip.

Ballyporeen should appreciate the step up in trip on his stable and hurdling debut in final leg of the placepot (4.15). He is the second Menzies-trained banker in the perm, who is a profitable trainer to follow at the North Yorkshire venue.
