Weld filly Azila looks set to improve greatly on Leopardstown debut

The beautiful Azila should progress a good deal for her Leopardstown debut

Trainer: Dermot Weld
5th, 7f two-year-old fillies' maiden, Leopardstown, July 11

This contest looks one of the best of its kind run this season, with several of the field holding Moyglare Stud Stakes entries, including this daughter of Dark Angel.
A superb-looking specimen in the paddock beforehand, she looks capable of coming on hugely for this effort. She was slightly slowly into stride and showed plenty of inexperience, but from more than a furlong out the penny began to drop and she hit the line hard.
She boasts a fine pedigree, being out of a half-sister to Azamour and a close relative of Astarabad. She is probably a middle-distance filly for next year, but her Moyglare entry does not look fanciful and she should have little difficulty landing a maiden before going on to better things.
