Wave proves too strong for Brook at Carlisle

Cultram Abbey needed another stride in the 3m2½f handicap chase at Carlisle, failing by a head to overhaul Carrigdhoun after being matched at 1.23. The winner traded at 75 and improved trainer Maurice Barnes's record in handicap chases at the track in the last five seasons to 7-18 (£33.75 profit to a £1 level stake). Third home In The Rough was done at 1.23.

In the match for the Listed chase at Carlisle, Brian Hughes dictated the pace to perfection on Seeyouatmidnight, quickly shrugging of Bristol De Mai's weak effort after three out. The runner-up was backed at an optimistic 1.2.
