Everyone seems to have an opinion on Thistlecrack's chances of making it to the top level over fences and the fact he is such a talent means every step is going to be scrutinised – but was his performance on Sunday really that worrying?

Sure, he took off too soon at a couple of open ditches, but otherwise he was pretty flawless and thumped some talented horses with ease.

One thing is for certain, he is not going to get any meaningful experience as a novice in the near future, with Nicky Henderson already talking of swerving Newbury next week with Different Gravey, and – crazily given it's a Grade 1– the Feltham with O O Seven.
